Principal's Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome Back!  We hope you had a great summer and we are looking forward to a fantastic school year.  Listed below are some reminders of the policies we have here at Bucks Hill School.

  • Drop Off/Pick-Up

Please be aware that doors open at 8:05 am, no earlier, so please do not leave your child(ren) unattended.  We ask that if you need to pick up your child(ren) early, a note needs to be sent in to their teacher that morning.  For the safety of our children we ask that if you must pick up your child early, please do so prior to 2:15 pm in order to minimize disruption for dismissal procedures.  Children will not be dismissed between 2:15-2:35 pm.  Please plan accordingly.

  • Dress Code Policy

The city of Waterbury has a mandatory school dress code policy.  All children are to wear collared shirts in solid blue, white, gray, black or khaki.  Boys can wear pants or shorts and girls can wear pants, shorts, skirts, dresses or jumpers in solid blue, white, gray, black or khaki.  This policy is more detailed in the student handbook.  Be aware we have dress code violation form.  After the 3rd warning of a violation, the child will be referred to the Board of Education.

  • School Bus Expectations

If your child takes the bus to and from school, remind him/her to follow appropriate and expected behavior for everyone’s safety.  Remind your child to remain seated, keep hands and feet to oneself and may talk with the person next to them in a low voice.  Remind your child that riding the bus is a privilege and not following expected behavior may result in loss of riding the bus.

  • Celebrations

Due to food allergies in the school we will not be allowing any baked goods for celebrations.  Other non-edible options such as stickers, pencils, goody bags are welcome.  We are a ‘sweet free zone’!

  • Cell Phone Use

Under no circumstances are cell phones allowed in school.  If they are visible to a staff member they will be confiscated.  A phone call will be made to the home and a parent will have to come to the school to pick the phone up.

  • Communication

Our teachers and staff are in consistent communication with parents/guardians to ensure your child’s continued success. If there are any changes to your child’s student information sheet, please send in a letter to their teacher or stop by the main office.  Changes that need to be made to their sheet will not be taken over the phone.   For school visitations we ask that you notify the office 24 hours in advance.
