21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant 2018-19

Dr. Ruffin greets staff as they arrive at the reception to welcome her to Waterbury Public Schools. 

New Superintendent Named

Dr. Verna D. Ruffin is the new Superintendent of Schools for Waterbury. The Board of Education official named Dr. Ruffin at its meeting June 28, 2018. 

Dr. Ruffin comes to Waterbury from a position as a Chief Academic Officer for the Achievement School District in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to that position, she had served as Superintendent of the Jackson-Madison County Schools in Jackson (TN) and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Area Superintendent in Tulsa (OK) Public Schools.

Educators of Year Announced

Thirty-one teachers, three paraprofessionals, one administrator, and one support staff person of the year will be honored at a ceremony at Crosby High School on Thursday, June 14th, at 4:30 p.m. The Administrator of the Year and the Waterbury Teacher of the Year will be announced at that time. New After School Program for Duggan Middle School Students!

We have been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant to offer an academic enrichment program for our 6th through 8th grade students. The program will run from 2:25 – 4:15 with transportation provided and snacks given daily. For a list of the activities that will take place, click here! PEACH Spring Break Health Exploration Camp for Free! (Available for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Students)


This amazing program is available during this years Spring break and is completely free of charge! Your child will shadow several different jobs in the medical field, traveling across Connecticut to visit doctors, marine biologists, nurses, and many more exciting professionals!
