January 2023 Message Last Updated: 1/18/2023 6:42 PM

Happy New Year! I hope 2023 is off to a great start for everyone! Teachers have been busy planning lessons for our students. We are almost at the mid-year point of the school year!

Over the winter break, students were offered an opportunity to complete the Math and Reading Bingo Challenge. We hope they enjoyed the tasks. The students who completed these tasks were recognized during the morning announcements!

Students in grades 1 through 5 recently took their mid-year math assessment. They will take this assessment again at the end of the year. Certificates will be given to those students that showed at least 50% growth and/or showed a lot of effort while taking this assessment in December. We want to recognize all of our hard working students. Kindergarten students will take this test in mid-January.

During the month of January, your child will also take a short reading assessment to determine how much growth has been made. After this assessment, teachers will be working with their students to set new reading goals. Parent letters will be sent home in early February showing your child’s results and it will also include different activitiesthat can be done at home to reinforce and strengthen skills.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to make an appointment with your child’s teacher. Mrs. Pronovost, the Reading Teacher, and Mrs. Thompson, the Literacy Facilitator, are also available. They are always glad to meet with you to discuss your child’s progress. As a reminder, your child can utilize the computer programs at home such as Math i-Ready, Lexia, Literacy Pro and Amplify Reading. Please encourage your child to read each night as well.

We hope you can join us for the next virtual family event on Monday, January 23rd, starting at 7:00p.m. We will hold a virtual Art Night led by Mr. Welch, our grade 4 teacher. More information will be shared soon.

Our next virtual PTO meeting will be held at 6:30p.m. on Wednesday, January 25th. Our School Governance Council meeting will begin immediately after this meeting at approximately 6:45p.m. Please feel free to join in and share any ideas you have.

As a reminder, attendance is extremely important. We expect our students to attend school each day so that they can learn as much as they can from their teachers. Students learn best when they are in school each day building on from the lesson fromthe prior day. Please plan vacations and appointments on days when school is not in session.

Once again, Happy New Year! Best wishes to all for a wonderful, happy and healthy new year in 2023!!
