Kennedy Students Compete

The Kennedy High School robotics team, the Nuts and Bolts of Fury, will be competing at the FIRST National Robotics Championship in St. Louis on April 26th to the 29th, after qualifying earlier this year at two regional competitions. The students have set up a GoFundMe page and will be conducting fundraisers at Amalfi’s on April 10 and Texas Road House on April 18, in addition to two car washes, a dunk tank at the school, and a paint night. Kennedy teacher George Flaherty works with the students.

Twenty-six Kennedy High School students recently spent five days in New Orleans, helping construct a Habitat for Humanity home and seeing the sights. The members of the HOPE  (Helping People Everywhere) and YES (Young Educators Society) clubs were accompanied by Jahanna Hayes and Cassandra Fann Peirce.

Crosby Students Do Well in State Competitions

The Crosby High School LifeSmarts team will be representing the state of Connecticut at the National LifeSmarts competition in Pittsburgh the week of April 20th to the 24th. The Crosby students have won the state championship before, with coach Donna Mancuso winning Coach of the Year honors last year.

The Crosby High School Mock Trial Team made it to the semi-finals and lost by one point to Trumbull who ended up being the state champion. The students displayed great professionalism and knowledge of their assigned case.  Coach Donna Mancuso learned that Trumbull High has Mock Trial as a 45 minute class every day whereas the Crosby students practice only one night a week and occasional Sundays at my attorney's office.   My Vice Principal actually had to take the team to the last two trials as I was in Washington on another program.  She was impressed by what she saw as well.

CT Is Standing Up for Public Schools

The National School Board Association and its state associations, including the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education, have banded together to share the successes of public schools. NSBA has gathered the support of such superstars as Magic Johnson, Montel Williams and Sal Khan. As part of its efforts, Connecticut has developed a video that stars Rick Matracchio, a Waterbury native.
