School Profile

The Enlightenment School

The Enlightenment School is a program designed to provide a stable, nurturing, and stimulating environment for "at risk" students in grades 6-12 in the Waterbury School system. All faculty members, 9 academic and 2 unified arts, are certified.  Support staff consists of a twelve month secretary, nurse, prevention specialist, truancy prevention specialist, parent liaison, school counselor, school social worker, school psychologist, and an in-school suspension teacher and all are supported by a School Resource Officer (SRO).  Students are referred to the program by their district schools. An interview with the principal, a parent/guardian, and the student is required prior to acceptance to the program.  Students and parents/guardians are required to sign a contract before enrolling in the program. The program also serves expelled students in grades 6-12. This program is staffed with three special education teachers, two regular education teachers, and support staff. The program also serves regular and special education students who are habitual truants.  Habitual truants are referred to the program by the district schools.  Upon acceptance, into this setting students are offered an intensive and individualized program to assist them in developing academically and socially. Please contact the building Principal Richard M. Arroyo to discuss all the School has to offer.
