Elizabeth Crichton Brown has over 30 years of experience in public service, both as an elected official and as the Legislative Director for the State Commission on Children. Brown is currently the sole proprietor of E.C. Brown Government Relations Consulting. After a successful career in teaching for ten years, she was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1987, serving the 74th District for six years. During her tenure, Brown took a leadership role in implementing the state’s recycling law and championed civil rights and education reform.
After her legislative tenure, Brown became the Legislative Director for the State Commission on Children, promoting public policies for children and families. She is a dedicated community volunteer, serving as Co-Chair of the School Readiness Council, Chair of the Mayor’s Early Childhood Cabinet and Chair of the United Way Education Impact Council. She is also involved in state organizations and serves as Vice President of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education and is a Board Member of the State Education Resource Center.
Brown has been a member of the Waterbury Board of Education since 2011, serving as President from 2015-2019. She is committed to addressing the achievement gap among children of color and works tirelessly to ensure equity and access to opportunity for all students.
Brown is a lifelong resident of Waterbury and is married to Lynn Richard Brown and has three grown children and five grandchildren.
