WHAT DOES THE F.A.C.E. CENTER OFFER?
The Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.) Center is a one-stop location for families and community members looking for information on the Waterbury Public Schools or resources that are available in the community for Waterbury area families. One of the goals of the center will be to help parents become fully engaged in their child's education. The Center will work closely with schools and parent liaisons to assure that all parents feel welcome in their own schools and know whom to contact if any questions arise. Research indicates that engagement in schools not only helps improve student academic outcomes but is also linked to improved behavior, attendance, graduation and college enrollment rates.
The Center is very family friendly. Both the main reception area and the Family Room offer books and toys to entertain young visitors while their parents gather information about district schools or discuss issues of concern. The F.A.C.E. Center's new Family Room includes four computers that parents can use to access their child's own grade and attendance records through Progress Book, the district's parent portal. Parents may also use the computers to access other resources available throughout the community.
At a future date, F.A.C.E will also offer workshops for parents on educational topics, such as resources to help children with homework, understanding Common Core, becoming an advocate for their child, and the importance of daily attendance, even in the younger grades.
The F.A.C.E Center is located in Room 106, on the first floor of the Chase Building, 236 Grand Street. The Chase Building is located dirtectly opposite City Hall.
