Dear Student, Parents, Families and Staff:
I hope this finds you well and in good health. I understand that this is an uncertain and challenging time. Please know that the well-being of our students is my first priority.
In accordance with Governor Ned Lamont’s latest executive order, Waterbury Public Schools will be closed through at least March 31. Please continue to monitor the District website (www.waterbury.k12.ct.us) as well as the District’s social media pages for the latest information regarding when schools will reopen. Additionally, to enhance communication, the District’s Information Technology Department has created the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please reach out if you have any concerns or questions and a member of my staff will respond to you within 24 hours.
Continued Meal Service:
Waterbury Public Schools will continue serving breakfast and lunch through the duration of the closure. As a reminder, meals can be picked up at any one of the 25 schools listed on the website between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Students and parents may pick up meals from the site most convenient to their home even if their child is not enrolled in that school.
Continuation of Learning:
The District has created a supplemental learning plan that will provide a continuation of learning and keep our students engaged with school. Students will complete assignments at home. All the information regarding the supplemental learning plan can be found on the District website’s homepage (http://bit.ly/2W6VtAE). The supplemental learning plan includes an extensive list of online resources. For students who do not have access to the online learning plan, homework packets for Kindergarten through 12th grade will be available in each school’s lobby during meal service. If you have any questions regarding academics please email WPSAcademics@waterbury.k12.ct.us.
Students with Disabilities:
Parents or guardians of students with disabilities in need of additional assistance can email questions or concerns to email@example.com. A member of the staff will respond to you within 24 hours.
Please take care of yourselves and continue to follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/steps-when-sick.html), as well as the City of Waterbury Department of Public Health, which recommend that individuals practice every day measures to prevent the spread of germs and avoid illness, such as:
· Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers
· Avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose with unwashed hands
· Avoid close contact with individuals who are sick
· Avoid hand shaking
· Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and heed the guidance of state and city officials as we navigate this unprecedented time. As additional information becomes available, we will communicate that with you. Thank you for your flexibility and patience during this challenging time.
Dr. Verna D. Ruffin, Superintendent
