FREE Folklore Interactive Workshop

Please join the Waterbury Parent Academy as they sponsor an extraordinary interaactive experience for parents and students performed by Shakesperience Productions at Kennedy High School on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. See attached flyer for more information.

Parent and Community Leadership Conference

Come join us in a celebration of parent and community leadership, including parent recognition awards, display of student logo contest art work, student jazz performance, informative workshops, and lunch served by the Culinary Arts students of Crosby and Wilby High Schools. Featuring Guest Speaker Elizabeth Williamson, Northeast Communications Director for the U.S. Department of Education. Free parking, continental breakfast, best practices in parent engagement displays, and an opportunity to meet and network with other engaged parents, along with a free gift bag for each participant and a chance to win great prizes. Board of Education Reschedules Meetings

The Board of Education workshop scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2015, has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 16, 2015, 5:30 p.m. at the Waterbury Career Academy, 175 Birch Street. Further, the Board of Education's regular meeting for Thursday, April 16, 2015, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 22, 2015, 6:30 p.m. at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School, 16 South Elm Street.

Smile Builders Spring Schedule

Parents: Smile Builders is a program that provides dental cleaning services to students during the school day. It is available to all students, including those with private dental insurance, HUSKY plan, or uninsured. Check the attached calendar for more information as well as dates when Smile Builders will be visiting your child's school. Flyer with calendar.

Honorees

Waterbury Public Schools is excited to announce the several educators and students being acknowledged at the 15th Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet for the Rivera Memorial Foundation, Inc. 

  • Juan Mendoza (Reed) will be receiving the Inspiring Educator Award

  • Jeff Hunter (Central Office) will be receiving the Community Service Award

  • Anthony Azzara (Sacred Heart) will be receiving the Inspiring Educator Award

    Students:

  • Sohan Aziz (Kennedy) will be receiving the Rivera Memorial Foundation Scholarship

  • Alegra Hilyard (WAMS) will be receiving the Rivera and Hughes Memorial Scholarship

  • Amber Craig (Sacred Heart) will be receiving the Joseph Cortes Memorial Scholarship

Testing Windows Announced

We are beginning our test period for the Smarter Balanced test in our schools. Each school has received information about the district’s testing window for each test and will create a building schedule based on that testing window.

 

BOE Approves 2015-2016 School Calendar

The Board of Education approved the calendar for the 2015-2016 school year at its meeting of February 5, 2015. School will begin August 26, 2015 for students. Staff will be returning for professional development on August 24 and August 25. New teacher orientation is August 17 - 19.

Pre-Kindergarten Registrations

Registrations for the public school pre-kindergarten classes will be accepted January 7, 2015 through May 29, 2015. Click here for more information.
