5th Grade at Bucks Hill works hard every day to live up to the motto of respectful, responsible, and safe. Students are encouraged to strive to reach their full potential by perservering in daily tasks, supporting their classmates, and being role models for the younger students in the school.
In order to help your children become successful students, please take the time at home to ask them about school. The parents interest and support for education is invaluable. We encourage you to have your son/daughter read at home at least 20 minutes each night. Studies have shown children who read on a regular basis increase their vocabulary and levels of comprehension. In addition to regular reading, children should be practicing basic math facts. The 5th grade curriculum requires students to be fluent in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Weaknesses in those areas will make new material much more difficult. A fluent ability to compute math facts, however, will allow students to master 5th grade skills.
Homework is typically assigned 3-5 nights per week. Please check your child's homework folder and planner on a daily basis and make sure they are completing the assigned work.
- I-Ready is a fantastic math tool that your child can use at home as well. This interactive math website will enhance math abilities by teaching each child according to their own skills and abilities. We strongly encourage use of this resource at home each week.
-Students have been introduced to Readworks.com where they receive leveled reading passages and comprehension questions that follow. They have a class code and password to go along with it. Please contact your child’s teacher for more information.
As always, the success of your child is a collaborative effort, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via our school email or by calling the school at 574-8182. Phone calls or emails will be promptly returned.
