HUMAN GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION POLICY

Parents:

  1. HUMAN GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION POLICY

Any parent or legal guardian of a Waterbury Public School student may exempt his/her child from any or all lessons dealing with Human Growth, Development and Family Life portions of the Health and Wellness Education Curriculum.  This may be done by written notification to the Principal of the building that the child attends.  Copies of the curriculum are available at the school for parent review.  If you would like to read the curriculum, please call the school and make an appointment to go in and review the material.

 

New Superintendent Named

Dr. Verna D. Ruffin is the new Superintendent of Schools for Waterbury. The Board of Education official named Dr. Ruffin at its meeting June 28, 2018. 

Dr. Ruffin comes to Waterbury from a position as a Chief Academic Officer for the Achievement School District in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to that position, she had served as Superintendent of the Jackson-Madison County Schools in Jackson (TN) and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Area Superintendent in Tulsa (OK) Public Schools.

Alert: New kindergarten and pre-k students need physicals, immunizations, lead screening before school year begins

All incoming pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are required to have physical examinations, including immunizations and lead screening, before the start of the school year. Children who have not completed these requirements will be excluded from school. Back to School Rally

The 21st Annual Back To School Rally will be held on August 22, 2018 at Library Park from 1:00pm-3pm. 

Wilson to hold Ice Cream Social on Aug. 24

Woodrow Wilson School will hold an end-of-the-summer ice cream social on Friday, Aug. 24, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the school, at Birch and Wall Streets. Enjoy a cool treat, meet the teachers and staff, and find out about upcoming events.

Registration is under way for Library's Summer Reading Club

Silas Bronson Library encourages children ranging from infants through eighth graders to participate in its Summer Reading Club. Registration is under way, and continues through Friday, Aug. 10. Registration forms are available at the main library and at the Bunker Hill branch. Online registration is available at bronsonlibrary.org/kids. A closing event with Ben & Jerry's ice cream will be held on Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. For more information, call 203-574-8213.
