Dear Parent or Guardian:
Our annual standardized testing window begins this week!
The Smarter Balanced Assessment is aligned to the Connecticut Core Standards and is designed to assess student progress toward college and career readiness in mathematics, reading, and writing. Administered online, these assessments adapt to each student’s ability, giving teachers and parents/guardians information to help students succeed.
The Smarter Balanced Assessment will be administered to students in Grades 6 – 8. The Next Generation Science Standards assessment will be administered in late May to grade 8 students only. A full schedule will be posted on the school website.
As required by Connecticut General Statute 10-14n, all students are required to take a mastery examination in Grades 3 – 8 for mathematics, reading, and writing.
It is critical that students are well rested, nourished and ready for testing therefore we are asking parents and guardians to be sure students are getting a full night’s rest, have eaten a good breakfast and understand the importance of the testing.
To learn more about the assessments, please explore the Smarter Balanced Practice Tests with your child at https://ct.portal.airast.org/training-tests.stml. For additional parent information, please visit the Connecticut Smarter Balanced website at www.ct.gov/sde/SmarterBalanced.
Please be sure your child is on time for school each day; homeroom begins at 7:50. Please do not dismiss your child early from school as that would interfere with testing or result in your child missing important instructional time.
