In the event of a district closure or delay, the Departments of Communication and IT will alert parents and staff as early as possible through a variety of communication platforms, such as:
- ParentSquare
- Website
- Local News
- Public Access Television
- Social Media
DELAYED OPENING: When early morning weather conditions are severe enough to warrant a delayed opening, school starting times are delayed by two hours from their regular schedule.
- Preschool Schedule - Due to the variety of morning, afternoon and full day preschool programs the district offers, school Administrators that offer such programs, will need to communicate to parents their delayed opening policy.
EARLY DISMISSAL: An early dismissal will be implemented when inclement weather is predicted to create hazardous road conditions during the dismissal or the City of Waterbury or State declare a state of emergency due to hazardous conditions.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: When Waterbury Public Schools is participating in a Remote Learning Day, closed or will be dismissing early, all after school activities are cancelled. If you have students that are bused to any of the offsite after school programs, school Administrators will be responsible for contacting the offsite program directors.
MAGNET SCHOOLS: If Waterbury has a delayed opening but schools in your town do not, buses will run accordingly:
- Waterbury Arts Magnet School: 9:25AM start time
- Maloney Interdistrict Magnet School: 10:35AM start time
- Rotella Interdistrict Magnet School: 11:05AM start time
If school is closed in your town and Waterbury Public Schools is open, parents are responsible for transportation to school on that day. Buses will not run. If an early dismissal is called in your town, but not in Waterbury Public Schools, we will dismiss your children when your town’s early dismissal bus arrives.
