During the renovation of Wendell Cross Elementary School, the Wildcat family will be utilizing St. Joseph's School on John Street. During the summer of 2019, The District's Building Department invested a great deal of resources and time into creating a welcoming environment for students, families and staff.
The official groundbreaking for Wendell Cross was held on October 18, 2019. The school will be transformed into a state-of-the-art Pre-K through 8 school. The groundbreaking marked the beginning of Phase I of the project, which has a projected completion date of July 2021. The State Department of Administrative Services approved a modified and expanded project scope for the school in May of 2019. The city’s Board of Aldermen and Board of Education initially approved the project in 2016.

A "topping off" ceremony in which the final steel beam was placed on the structure was held on November 6, 2020.
Upon completion, the Pre-K through 8th Grade school will welcome nearly 700 students with stimulating classrooms and creative art, music and technology spaces. The school will also have a secure vestibule for visitor access.
