Our Transportation Department works closely with our transportation partners to ensure students get to and from school safely, while continuously improving communication, service, and accountability.

Our Commitment to Students and Families

The Waterbury Public Schools Transportation Department is responsible for monitoring transportation services and working with our providers to ensure that students receive safe, reliable, and equitable transportation.
Our work includes:

Monitoring transportation provider performance and service reliability.
Supporting all student transportation needs, including special education and McKinney-Vento transportation.
Coordinating in-town and out-of-town transportation services.
Ensuring transportation providers maintain qualified bus drivers and appropriate staffing.
Ensuring vehicles and equipment meet applicable Connecticut and federal safety requirements.
Using data and technology to identify opportunities for improved routing and service.
Strengthening communication between schools, families, transportation providers, and the district.

Conduct/Safety

Students, parents and guardians are expected to show respect to others at all times. Parents and guardians should remind students that the school bus is a privilege which may be revoked for anyone who does not follow the rules.

Parents/guardians are not allowed to board the bus for any reason.

Bus drivers are prohibited from letting students off at any stop other than their scheduled bus stop unless they have written permission from the school or the Board of Education Transportation Department. Kindergartners and Grade 1 students are required to have an adult or older sibling at the bus stop at all times.

Expected Behavior

Expected Behavior on Buses

Arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to bus time
Walk to the bus safely
Board the bus in an orderly fashion and take seat promptly
Share seats with others and remain seated while the bus is in motion
Use appropriate language and respectful speaking voices at all times
Keep hands and feet to one's self
Follow the directions of and be respectful of the bus driver, who is responsible for the safety of all passengers
Do not block the aisles or emergency exit. Do not litter or damage the bus in any way.
For one's own safety, please DO NOT EAT WHILE ON THE BUS. The driver may have to make quick stops to avoid distracted drivers or animals in the road; this may cause you to choke on food.
No weapons or fighting will be allowed on the bus
