About Us
The Special Education Department is committed to providing high quality instruction by implementing individualized, researched-based practices to empower students to reach their potential and become productive members of society. The department supports the district's mission to support the full potential of every student. We meet the varied needs of students with disabilities by establishing high expectations and developing quality Individual Education Plans (IEP) that deliver rigorous and effective instruction that comply with state and federal regulations. Special education programming and support services include accommodations and modifications of the general education curriculum and environment, individualized goals and objectives, coordinated transition services, technology and related services. Related services include psychological, speech and language, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, visual and hearing support and specialized transportation services. All services and supports are identified at a Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meeting and included in the IEP. In addition, all students are provided with a positive, safe school climate that is respectful and actively engages families. Finally, transition programming for students focusing on responsibility, independence and self-advocacy to make a smooth transition into adulthood is critical.
