Mayor O'Leary and WPS Announce Waterbury Scholarship Program

In collaboration with Mayor Neil M. O'Leary, Waterbury Public Schools is pleased to announce plans for a Waterbury Promise Scholarship Program. Beginning with the class of 2024 (current freshmen), Waterbury Promise will provide tuition assistance to high school students who wish to continue their post-secondary education. Modeled after the Hartford and New Haven Promise Programs, the scholarship program is tailored to individual community needs. While the eligibility criteria for the program is still being defined, the scholarship will require students to meet a defined GPA as well as attendance and residency requirements.

Waterbury Public Schools is delighted to continue the tradition of honoring our students who excel academically as well as serve as a role model to their classmates. This year's honorees have embodied and exemplified those characteristics consistently, particularly through this extraordinarily challenging time, as they transition to middle and high school and beyond.

Mr. Jason Martinez Named 2021 Waterbury Teacher of the Year Jason Martinez was named Waterbury's 2021 Teacher of the Year. Mr. Martinez is a Physical Education teacher at North End Middle School.

Waterbury Public Schools is delighted to announce that Mr. Jason Martinez has been named the district’s 2021 Teacher of the Year. Mr. Martinez, who has been with the district for 17 years, is a physical education teacher at North End Middle School.

WPS International School Coming in Fall 2021

We are delighted to announce that Waterbury Public Schools will be opening an International School. The Pre-K through 8 school will open for the 2021-2022 school year. The school will offer students the opportunity to become biliterate in English and Spanish, develop cross-cultural competency and attain high levels of academic achievement.

The application for the 2021-2022 school year has closed. The Lottery Committee is reviewing the applications. Families will be notified the week of May 24 regarding placement.

Kindergarten Registration for 2021-2022 School Year Open

Registration for all Waterbury children entering Kindergarten in September 2021 is open. For additional information, a detailed scheduled and to register, click here.

Pre-K Registration for 2021-2022 School Year Open

The Office of Early Childhood continues to enroll children entering Pre-K for the 2020-2021 school year. Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year will open on March 1 and close on June 15.

Wilby High School Accepted into Connecticut State Department of Education’s Commissioner’s Network Students at Wilby High School

We are delighted to announce that Wilby High School will join the Connecticut State Department of Education’s Commissioner’s Network following a rigorous application process that spanned several months. The Network is a commitment between local stakeholders and the CSDE to dramatically improve school climate, culture and student achievement. The Network infuses new resources and empowers teachers and school leaders to implement research-based strategies in their school. 

 

Waterbury Career Academy High School Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as top Connecticut High School

In the U.S. News & World Report's 2021 edition, Waterbury Career Academy High School has been ranked as one of the best high schools in Connecticut, ranking second in the state in math and reading. Additionally, the school is recognized as one of the best in the New Haven metro area.
